Die Erfindung betrifft einen Zylinderblock vom closed-deck Typ, welcher im Druckgußverfahren hergestellt werden kann. Der die Zylinder (2) umgebende Wassermantel (3) ist zu diesem Zweck zur Seite hin offen ausgebildet. Die seitliche Öffnung kann durch eine Abdeckung (9) verschlossen werden, welche an ihrer Innenseite zusätzlich eine die Strömungsverteilung und/oder Wärmeabgabe fördernde Formgebung aufweist. <IMAGE>
