[origin: EP1337130A2] The device displays selects or combines individual semiconducting component light elements on a bearer. The light elements are especially LEDs or other integrated semiconducting circuits with light emission components in one or more circuit groups. One or more groups has an associated monitoring circuit that detects a light element fault or failure and produces a monitoring signal depending on the state of the light element or a circuit group(s). The device displays varying information by selecting or combining individual semiconducting component light elements (L) on a bearer. The light elements are especially LEDs or other integrated semiconducting circuits with components for light emission and arranged in one or more circuit groups. At least one or more groups has an associated monitoring circuit (2) that detects a fault or failure of a light element and produces an electronic monitoring signal (U) depending on the state of the light element or of one or more circuit groups.
