Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0241791A1] A control handle (10) for a full thickness resection device is disclosed. In an embodiment for the control handle (10) of the present invention, the control handle (10) includes a body (100) and a staple firing assembly (300) coupled to the body (100). The staple firing assembly (300) includes a rotatable staple firing ring (310), a worm gear assembly (320) rotatably engaged with the staple firing ring (310), and a flexible drive shaft (330) coupled to the worm gear assembly (320). In an embodiment for a method of the present invention, a method for actuating a full thickness resection device is provided. The method includes the steps of rotating a staple firing ring (310) in a first direction and actuating a worm gear assembly (320) in a first operative mode in response to the rotation of the staple firing ring (310) in the first direction, the worm gear assembly (320) being coupled to the staple firing ring (310). A flexible drive shaft (330) is rotated in the first direction, the flexible drive shaft (330) being coupled to the worm gear assembly (320), and torsional energy is stored in the flexible drive shaft (330) during rotation of the flexible drive shaft (330) in the first direction. The worm gear assembly (320) is actuated in a second operative mode and a release rate of the stored torsional energy in the flexible drive shaft (330) is controlled by the worm gear assembly (320). The flexible drive shaft (330) is rotated in a second direction.
