[origin: WO0244475A1] The invention relates to a compactor comprising at least one travelling drum (4, 4a, 4b) which is rotatable about a drum shaft (2). An exciter is mounted in the drum (4, 4a, 4b), its position relative to a vertical plane through the drum shaft (2) being adjustable by an adjustable slewing angle. The exciter consists of a pendulum-type vibrator (10) with a pendulum-type housing (8) that oscillates about a slewing angle that is coaxial to the drum shaft (2). Said pendulum-type vibrator has a single unbalance exciter shaft (12) that is radially mounted in the pendulum-type housing (8) at a parallel distance to the drum shaft (2) and generates an elliptical oscillation of the drum.
