[origin: EP1338735A1] The system has a reader (42), a controller (38) and an actuator (32) that communicate with each other so the actuator unlocks a barrier (14) when an authorization signal (56) is received from an identification transmitter (54) carried by an authorized user (48). The transmitter and receiver communicate with each other automatically so that the actuator unlocks the barrier as soon as the authorized user is in reading range. Independent claims are also included for the following: an access control arrangement and a method of checking the authorization for opening a barrier in or on a building.
