[origin: EP1338858A2] The large caliber cannon (1), with a barrel (3) sliding in a cradle (2), fires ammunition using propellant cartridges. A catch holder (9) for the spent cartridges is behind the weapon, to take the ejected cartridge cases when the breech is opened on recoil and the ejector (6) extracts the cartridge. The cartridge trap has a cartridge box (12) with a sprung base so that, if the breech fouls a spent cartridge on recoil or recuperation, the cartridge is pushed clear by displacing the base on its spring.
