[origin: WO0239963A1] The invention is a method for treating onychomycosis in humans comprising contacting a fungal infected nail with a composition comprising an effective amount of a copper salt. Most preferably, the fungal infected nail is treated with 10 % (weight/weight) aqueous copper(II)sulfate. Treating human nails with the copper salt composition can be used to detect fungal infection before routine physical symptoms are presented. Fungal infection is also prevented by pre-treatment of nails with the copper salt composition.
