[origin: WO0249046A1] The invention relates to a novel method and a novel device for producing cable harnesses, using a cable installation board. The invention provides that in order to produce cable harnesses automatically and flexibly, the starting contact of the cable is removed from the cable store by means of a robot-guided first grabbing mechanism ("the starting grabbing mechanism") and before the start of the cable installation process, preferably at the same time as the cable installation process, the target contact of the cable is removed from the cable store by means of a robot-guided second grabbing mechanism ("target grabbing mechanism"). After the spatial alignment of the starting contact and insertion into the starting receiving element of the starting housing, the starting contact is inserted into the starting receiving element of the starting housing with a snap-in action, by means of a first robot-guided auxiliary grabbing mechanism ("starting auxiliary grabbing mechanism") which grabs the cable. The cable is guided along a course provided, via the supporting and deviating elements of the installation board, while the target contact is fully maintained by means of the target grabbing mechanism. Finally, after appropriate positioning, the target contact is inserted into the target receiving element of the target housing with a snap-in action, by means of a second robot-guided auxiliary grabbing mechanism ("target auxiliary grabbing mechanism") which grabs the cable. It is especially preferable to carry out a lock check after inserting the starting and target contacts.
