The moving stairs or pavement comprises a chain to drive a step or pallet belt, and has a deflection wheel (12) connected with torsional resistance to a drive wheel (22) which changes the direction of a transmission chain (26) which revolves between a transmission pinion (28) and the drive wheel. The drive wheel, chain and pinion form a transmission unit (24) which compensates for the polygon effect. The ratio of the speed of the transmission chain to the step or pallet belt is constant at any rotational angle of the deflection wheel.

Eine Fahrtreppe oder ein Fahrsteig weist eine Stufen-/Palettenkette für den Antrieb eines Stufen- oder Palettenbandes auf und mindestens ein Umlenkrad, über das die Stufen-/Palettenketten antreibbar sind und das seinerseits von einem Antriebsmotor über ein Vorgelegegetriebe antreibbar ist. Die Fahrtreppe oder der Fahrsteig ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Umlenkrad 12 mit einem Antriebsrad 22 drehfest verbunden ist, das eine Vorgelegekette 26 umlenkt, die zwischen einem Vorgelegeritzel 28 und dem Antriebsrad 22 umläuft, wobei Antriebsrad 22, Vorgelegekette 26 und Vorgelegeritzel 28 das Vorgelegegetriebe 24 bilden, und dass das Vorgelegegetriebe 24 den Polygoneffekt kompensiert. <IMAGE>
