Abstract (en)

[origin: WO02051783A1] The invention concerns a method for preparing beta, gamma saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acids. More particularly, the invention concerns hydroxycarbonylation of an organic compound comprising a conjugated unsaturation, such as butadiene, through the action of carbon monoxide and water in the presence of a palladium catalyst. The resulting carboxylic acids are preferably pentenoic acids. The invention is characterised in that the reaction medium at the end of the hydroxycarbonylation step is treated with hydrogen to reduce the palladium present in palladium 2 + oxidation state to zero oxidation state and to recover the precipitated palladium.
