Abstract (en)

[origin: WO02051800A2] The invention relates to amphiphilic, cationic, sulpho-substituted phosphatidylethanolamine analogues and salts thereof, which can complex biopolymers such as DNA, RNA, oligonucleotides, ribozymes, proteins and peptides and introduce the above into eukaryotic cells. Particularly suitable are compounds derived from 1,2-dioleoyl-3-sn-phosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) and in which the phosphate ester group of DOPE is replaced by an isosteric group CH2-SO-CH2 or CH2S(O)2-CH2. Said compounds are particularly suitable for application in gene therapy and also for diagnostic purposes as a result of the property thereof of forming aggregates with biologically active molecules such as DNA or RNA for example.
