[origin: EP1347091A1] A novel ester (I) is the reaction product of: (i) benzoic acid (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, OH, NH2 and/or NO2); with (ii) phenol which is optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, NH2 and/or NO2 and which has been reacted with 0.5-6 mols. alkylene oxide per mol. OH group in the phenol. An Independent claim is also included for a dyeing aid including by wt. (A) the novel ester (I) (20-60%) and (B) an ester (20-60%) of benzoic acid (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, OH, NH2 and/or NO2) with a 2-12C diol.
