Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1347097A2] A paper de-watering press separates functions of web surrender and pre-tensioning in a first drying group of drying drums. Transfer of the web (1) from drum (2) to a felt drying belt (3) is effected without tension. After the web has moved around and separated from a heated drum (7), the web is esp. surrendered after a short gap to a pick-up (9) moving at higher speed than the drying belt (3). The assembly is a de-watering press for carton, paper, tissue paper or other fibrous web product. The web (1) de-watering press has a nip gap formed by two drums (2, 6, 11). The web (1) passes through the gap together with a drying belt (3, 13), following which the web remains in contact with a drum (2) and is then surrendered with a drying belt (3) to a further drying drum group with a heated drum (7). The drying belt (3) is pressed against a perforated suction lead drum (4) against the press drum with a force of pref. 10-30 KN/m. The lead drum (4) may be lifted at least 50 mm clear of the press drum (2) and has an elastic coating. The drum has a vacuum of between 3 and 5 mWs. The pick-up (9) is a drying sieve forming part of a subsequent drying group. The drying belt (3) moves 0.2 to 0.4 per cent faster than the press drum (2) in contact with the web (1). The felt drying belt has a fine gauze cover. An air blow-pipe is located in the gusset between the press drum (2) and felt drying belt (3) and is pointed in the direction of web travel (15).
