[origin: WO0241648A2] There is disclosed an apparatus for providing broadband access to a fixed wireless network (100) for use in association with a subscriber premises. The apparatus comprises: 1) a subscriber access device (210) capable of being mounted on an exterior portion of the subscriber premises, the subscriber access device (210) comprising a wireless transceiver (305) capable of communicating with the fixed wireless network (100) and at least one of a data interface (311) capable of communicating with a data processing device within the subscriber premises and a voice interface (312) capable of communicating with a telephony device within the subscriber premises; and 2) a backup power supply (261) capable of providing power to the interface access device (210) in the event of a failure of main AC power in the subscriber premises.
