Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1350890A2] An adjustable stop (26) limits pivoting motion of the seal (20) in the contact direction. This controls the pressure with which the working section (28) of the seal (20) is pressed against the moving surface (12). The seal is hinged (22), or alternatively pivots on a flexible region. The force acting on the stop is compensated; it arises from pressure difference between the two sides of the seal. The seal is wear-resistant because it is thick and/or is made of a suitable material. The stop adjusts the contact pressure such that the seal still works with the moving surface, but there is no contact on reaching a given speed. The stop is adjustable in the opposite direction. It is a sealing strip lying across the running direction of the moving surface. It is elastic or spring- loaded against the surface. It is resilient in the sealing region. The section between the sealing region and the pivot axis is comparatively rigid. It forms a gap with the moving surface in the running direction. Further configurations are elaborated. Lubricant is provided for the seal and/or the moving surface, through a sprayer pipe (42). The seal extends over the entire length of the roller.
