[origin: EP1351199A2] Method whereby: banknotes (1) are placed in a stack (10) according to a first serial number sequence; banknotes are taken from the stack and processed according to the first serial number sequence, while a second serial number sequence is determined from the processed notes. If an interruption occurs in note processing after a partial quantity have been processed, the partial quantity are stored, processing is continued with the remaining notes according to the first serial number and processing of the second serial number is continued based on assumption of hypothetical number of notes in the partial quantity.
