The device has at least one high voltage electrode (10) for electrostatically charging a coating material and a compressed air path (22) for feeding compressed air to the high voltage electrode. The high voltage electrode is in the form of a cannula-like thin tube, at least at its downstream end, which consists of electrically conductive material and the compressed air path extends through the channel through the high voltage electrode.
