[origin: WO02079248A2] The present invention relates to polynucleotide and polypeptide molecules for mammalian alpha helix-53 (Zalpha53). The polypeptides, and polynucleotides encoding them, are hormonal and may be used to regulate the functioning of the immune system. The present invention also includes antibodies to the Zalpha53 polypeptides. Antagonists to Zalpha53 can be used to treat inflammation and inflammation-related disease.
