Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1357219A2] In a process to simultaneously straighten and/or align a threads or mesh forming a textile web, the material at least partly enmantles a straightening drum. The drum esp. imparts correctional local acceleration or deceleration forces to given points over the width of the web. The force is imparted by friction between the textile and the segmented surface of a drum and/or the respective drum belt. The correctional forces are different from point to point, so that a correction of S-bends or other non-linear distortion is effected within a compact array of drums. The mesh straightening assembly has an axially segmented drum, each segment having an individual drive which accelerates or decelerates as required. The segments are separated from each other by air gaps and supported by a transverse shaft. The drive units are located below the mesh-to-drum contact zone. The drive units are friction rollers and/or flat belts linked to an electric motor. The motors are interchangeable and mounted on a load-bearing beam.
