[origin: EP1357667A1] A frequency synthesizer for generating a synthesized output signal having a first and a second output frequency comprises: a first stage (44, 46) including a first (44) and a second (46) input synthesizers of the narrowband PLL type to generate respective signals having respective first and second frequencies that are submultiples of the first and second output frequencies, and a second stage (16, 38, 40) arranged to receive selectively (42) the respective signals generated in the first stage (44, 46) and including a further PLL synthesizer to up-convert them by multiplying the respective first and second frequencies to thereby obtain the synthesized output signal. <??>A corresponding transceiver (1) also includes a transmission mixer (12), preferably of the sub-harmonic type, as well as a reception mixer (32), the transmission mixer (12) and the reception mixer (32) being adapted to be fed with the first and second output frequencies from the synthesizer. <IMAGE>
