[origin: EP0800191A2] The circuit breaker has at least one cylindrical extinguishing chamber filled with an insulating medium. The chamber extends along a central axis (2) and has a conductive current path. Two fixed burn away contact arrangements (5,6) are arranged on the central axis (2) in the current path, spaced apart from each other in the axial direction. A movable bridge contact conductively connects the burning contacts (5,6) in the on state. An arc zone (24) is provided between the fixed contacts (5,6). This has a nominal current path, with movable nominal current contacts, arranged parallel to the conductive current path. The bridging contact is arranged inside the burning contact arrangements (5,6) extending along the central axis (2).
