[origin: WO0219182A2] The invention relates to a document production process, whereby print data from a computer (2) are sent to a printing unit (4) for printing onto a support (28). The support (28) is fed to at least one processing station (5, 6) before and/or after printing, comprising a check device (12, 13, 14, 15) at a checkpoint. Check data from the check device (12, 13, 14, 15) are sent to a monitoring device (7), by means of a computer network (21). The monitoring device (7) co-operates with a data bank (8) to monitor the process, in which check data are recorded. An operator file (11) is generated, in which data is stored on the operator assigned to the printing unit (4) and/or the processing station (5, 6). A protocol file is generated in which check data generated by machine as well as data on the operator assigned to the device monitored and/or the check device thereon is stored.
