[origin: EP1363034A1] A paper glazing drum has a core (1) at the center of a number of different layers with an elastic outermost layer. The elastic outer layer surrounds a fibre-reinforced base layer (3) whose coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity is, due to the fibres, approximately the same as that of the core (3). The drum has an elastic middle layer whose modulus of elasticity is less than that of the base layer. The drum has an outer layer (9) made of a combination of molten metal and molten plastic. The outer part (6) of the middle layer has a coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity which is approximately the same as that of the outer layer (9). The outer layer mixture of plastic and metal incorporates an abrasion-resistant metal essentially devoid of fibre, with a highly polished surface and an Ra-value of preferably less than 0.03 microns. The plastic in the mixture is a polyimide (PI), polyamideimide (PAI), polyetherimide (PEI), polysulfone (PSU, PES). Polyethersulfone (PESU) or a polyphenylenesulfone (PPSU) with a high melting point preferably above 500 degrees Celsius and a modulus of elasticity of preferably 3.5 Gpa.
