[origin: WO02073501A1] The present invention in various embodiments provides a computerized wagering game method and apparatus that features an operating system kernel (201), a system handler application (300) that loads and executes gaming program shared objects (203) and features nonvolatile storage that facilitates sharing of information between gaming program objects (203). The system handle (300)further provides an application program interface (206) library of functions callable from the gaming program objects (203), and facilitates the use of callback functions on change of data stored in nonvolatile memory (204). The nonvolatile storage (204) also provides protection against loss of game state during a power loss. The system handler application (300) includes a plurality of device handlers (210) providing an interface to selected hardware and the ability to monitor hardware events.
