Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1367018A2] The system has a number of individually driven cabins, first and second vertical elevator shafts (10,12) with entrances (14) and a storage shaft (11) between them enabling movement of cabins between shafts, a control system and a drive arrangement. The elevator shafts are arranged with entrances in a plane. The control system and drive arrangement can move empty cabins through transitions to make them available in the shafts as required. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of operating an inventive elevator system.
