[origin: EP1369527A1] A paper glazing calander has a show drum (2) and a counter-drum (3) forming a broad nip for a paper web. The shoe drum has a surrounding mantle (8) which can be pressed by a shoe (9) towards the counter-drum (3). The shoe (9) position is esp. variable along a line which is parallel to the counter-drum axis (15), such that it only partly overlaps the counter-drum (3). The counter-drum (3) is heated. The shoe (9) moves within the surrounding mantle (8). The mantle (8) and counter-drum (3) are fixed relative to each other. The broad nip is preceded by a web feed guide which adjusts web presentation to the nip.
