A pressure intensifier (9) comprising a displaceable piston (26) is arranged between the at least one injector (10) and a working medium high-pressure source (5). The displaceable piston (26) which separates a primary chamber (13) which can be connected to the working medium high pressure source (5) from a pressure chamber (8) which is connected to at least one injector (10) and filled with fuel. The pressure intensifier (9) generates a first fuel system pressure in the injector (10), which is used for injecting. The fuel injection device (1) comprises means for producing an additional second fuel system pressure, which can be used for injecting without activating the pressure intensifier (9).
