[origin: EP1371897A1] The lighting system (1) includes a decorative element (9), which may for example illustrate an outdoor scene. The lighting simulates the relief of the illustrated scene, with the light source providing light both to illuminate the scene and illuminate the room. The lighting system (1) for use in a room, for example a room without a window. The lighting unit comprises a support frame (7) which is fixed to one internal wall (8) of the room, with at least one light source mounted within the frame. A decorative element (9), which may for example illustrate an outdoor scene, is mounted in the support frame. The structure is such that the lighting simulates the relief of the illustrated scene, with the light source providing light both to illuminate the scene and illuminate the room. A filter (10) may be incorporated in the unit, absorbing a part of the light from the source. The decorative element may then be viewed through this filter. The filter may be in the form of a roller blind or Venetian blind, giving the additional impression of viewing an external scene. It is possible to adjust the transmission coefficient of this filter.
