[origin: WO02078169A1] The invention relates to a method consisting in: a) calculating the current (IR) circulating in the rotor of the alternator (1) taking account of the current rotor temperature; b) recording the rotation speed of the alternator (1); and c) determining the drive torque value using a predetermined relation that is specific to said alternator and linking said drive torque to the values for rotor current (IR) and rotation speed calculated during steps a) and b).
