[origin: EP1375746A1] An electrostatic curtain discharge process applies a coat liquid or paste medium to one or both sides of a moving web of paper or carton. In the process, an electrostatic force especiallyecially. deflects the curtain (3a) towards the web (1) and away from the path it would otherwise take under the influence of the earth's gravity. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly in which an electrostatic charge is applied to the web which is subjected to an electrostatic field. The field electrostatic potential is in the range 5 to 60 kW, at a current of 0.01 to 10 mA. The web humidity is in the range 1 to 4.5 per cent. The field drives the curtain upwards (3a) against the web lower face.
