[origin: WO02075684A1] A method for using multi-functional RFID tag assemblies, passive repeater systems and modular antenna systems. One embodiment comprises a method for communicating with an RFID tag (64) by providing a passive loop modular antenna system (66), moving the RFID tag (64) through a field related to the modular antenna system (66); and transmitting energy through the antenna to communicate with the RFID tag (64). The invention also comprises a method of configuring an RFID passive loop modular antenna system (66). The invention also comprises a method for communicating with an RFID tag (64) by providing a passive loop (66) in proximity with the RFID tag (64). RFID tags are also integrated into a carton (120) by affixing an RFID label (116, 112) or embedding an RFID tag. Such cartons (120) can be used to track items throughout the manufacturing, transporting, storing, distributing and delivering processes.
