[origin: WO02074673A1] The invention relates to a turning bar (01) for turning a band of material (9). Said turning bar comprises an outer casing (2) which is provided with holes (8) on at least one section of the circumference thereof and an inner chamber (21) filled with compressed air, whereby at least one piston (17) is pivotably arranged for blocking the holes (8); a motor (36) for displacing the piston (17) and a control circuit (53) which actuates the motor (36) in such a way that the piston (17) moves into a desired position defined by a control signal transmitted to the control circuit (53). The turning bar (01) can be pivoted at 90 DEG on a frame around a pivoting axis which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis thereof. A transmission (44,46,27) couples a rotational movement of the piston (17) around the axis to the pivoting movement of the turning bar (01).
