[origin: WO02081423A1] The invention relates to a method for producing hydroxyalkyl carboxylic acid esters, comprising the reaction of a carboxylic acid with an alkylene oxide. In the reaction, a multimetal cyanide composition of the general formula (I) M<3>zM<1>a[M<2>(CN)b(A)c]d fM<1>gXn mM<3>pYq h(H2O) eL kP (I), is used as the catalyst which is preferably applied to a solid support or shaped to a shaped body. The invention further relates to the use of the hydroxyalkyl carboxylic acid esters produced according to the inventive method as primary materials for varnishes.
