[origin: EP1382461A1] Device for scoring the spine (1) of an inner book (2) formed by printed sheets pressed together comprises a scoring tool rotating perpendicularly about an axis of rotation (6) and having cutting teeth (5) protruding from a support (3) which cut into the spine of the inner book on passing the inner book on the conveying path of an adhesive binding device to produce curved notches in the spine. The support has at least two cutting teeth lying opposite the axis of rotation and oriented at an acute angle (beta) to a cutting circle plane (20). The cutting teeth are held in recesses (7, 8) in the support so that they protrude over different distances.
