The electric motor (3) has a stator (4) and a rotor (5), a fan wheel (7) joined to the rotor and an associated fixed diffuser (9). The fan wheel and diffuser are enclosed by a centrally open cap (1). A sound damping element (17) associated with the diffuser is arranged inside the cap. The damping element is arranged in a crease-shaped impression in the cap at the end of the motor.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Elektromotor (3) mit einem Stator (4) und einem Rotor (5), einem mit dem Rotor (5) verbundenen Gebläserad (7) und einem zugeordneten, feststehenden Diffusor (9), wobei das Gebläserad (7) zusammen mit dem Diffusor (9) von einer mittig offenen Kappe (1) überfangen ist. Um einen Elektromotor der in Rede stehenden Art derart verbessert auszugestalten, dass der Hauptanteil des im Gebläse entstehenden Geräuschs am Entstehungsort möglichst breitbandig absorbiert wird, wird vorgeschlagen, dass innerhalb der Kappe (1), zugeordnet dem Diffusor (9) ein Schalldämpfungselement (17) angeordnet ist. <IMAGE>
