[origin: EP1382857A2] The electric motor (3) has a stator (4) and a rotor (5), a fan wheel (7) joined to the rotor and an associated fixed diffuser (9). The fan wheel and diffuser are enclosed by a centrally open cap (1). A sound damping element (17) associated with the diffuser is arranged inside the cap. The damping element is arranged in a crease-shaped impression in the cap at the end of the motor.
