[origin: WO02081574A1] The invention relates to surface-coated magnesium hydroxides having a coating consisting of: (a) between 0.2 and 5 wt. % - in relation to the magnesium hydroxide - of at least one compound from the group consisting of (i) fatty acids containing between 8 and 30 carbon atoms, (ii) alkylsilanes having at least one alkyl group containing at least 3 carbon atoms, (iii) organic titanates, and (iv) organic zirconates; and (b) between 0.2 and 5 wt. % - in relation to the magnesium hydroxide - of an aminosilane. The inventive magnesium hydroxides are characterised by a reduced tendency to "effloresce" when used as flame retardant filling materials in polyamides.
