A polishing plate (3) linked to a rotating drive shaft (7) is hinged on this shaft without rotating. This hinged connection allows the polishing plate to rotate and simultaneously follow the surface (41) of a workpiece (39) to be polished so that the polishing lining (5) always rests on the largest possible area of this surface.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Polieren einer punktunsymmetrischen Freiformfläche mit einer Poliermaschine wobei ein Polierteller (3) der Poliermaschine in gleicher Drehrichtung rotatorisch angetrieben wird wie die zu polierende optische Fläche. Dabei wird der Druck in einer Druckkammer (29) des Polierkopfes (1) in Abhängigkeit von der Oberflächenkontur der optischen Fläche (41) geregelt, so dass der auf der optischen Oberfläche (41) aufliegende Drehteller auf dieselbe einen vorbestimmten Polierdruck ausübt. Des Weiteren betrifft die Erfindung eine Poliermaschine. <IMAGE>
