Abstract (en)
The drive unit (1) has an air-cooled electric motor (2) positioned with its motor axis (6) at right angles to the driven wheel axis (7), with an intermediate bevel gearing (3) between the motor shaft and the wheel axis. The waste heat generated by the electric motor is dissipated by the outer mantle of the electric motor, which can be provided with a number of cooling ribs (12), a brake disc (11) attached to the motor shaft providing an increased air flow over at least part of the mantle surface of the electric motor.

Elektromotoren für Einzelradantriebe im Traktionsbereich, wie. z.B. für Schienenfahrzeuge müssen eine hohe Leistungsdichte aufweisen, um den Anforderungen an die hohen Beschleunigungen, vor allem im Nahverkehrsbereich, gerecht zu werden. Damit ist aber immer ein Kühlproblem verbunden, da die vom Elektromotor erzeugte Wärme abgeführt werden muss, um eine Überhitzung des Motors zu verhindern. Dazu wurden bisher immer externe Kühlsysteme eingesetzt, wie z.B. eine Wasserkühlung oder eine Luftkühlung mit einem Lüftungsrad. Die Erfindung schlägt eine Einzelachsantriebseinheit mit einem lüfterlosen luftgekühlten Elektromotor vor. <IMAGE>
