Abstract (en)

[origin: WO02094332A1] The invention relates to a medical device for positioning in the body, in particular in a vessel of a patient. Said device consists of a substrate (1), which is suitable for long-term positioning, whose biocompatible characteristics have been modified by bombarding its surface (2) with foreign ions (3). The foreign ions (3) are thus embedded in the substrate (1) and form a barrier layer (5) that impedes the diffusion of substrate ions (4) between the surface (2) and the interior (6) of the substrate (1).
