[origin: EP1389601A1] The method for splicing the end of a strip of paper (18) from a new reel (19) with the end of a second strip (2) from a reel (4) which is running out comprises feeding the strips at the same speed parallel to each other. A knurled surface (34) is then moved against the strips at the point where a rotating counter-roller (28) contacts them. It is moved at the same speed as the strips and in the opposite direction. An independent claim is included for a machine for carrying out the method.
