[origin: EP1389603A1] The method for splicing the end of a strip of paper (18) from a new reel (19) with the end of a second strip (2) from a reel (4) which is running out comprises compressing them between a rotating knurled surface (27) and a counter-surface (34). Excess material (54) is removed after splicing by feeding it between two rollers (14, 16) rotating at a higher speed than the main rollers. An independent claim is included for a machine for carrying out the method.
