Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1394320A1] The offset press includes an extended nip and roller unit (17, 19) through which the fibrous web (8) runs. The extended nip unit comprises a heated hard roller (20) and a flexible pressure component (23) which exert a pressure of 1-10 N/mm2 in the nip. One side of the fibrous web is subjected to greater de-watering treatment with felt belts (6, 7, 16) ahead of the extended nip. It is this side which contacts the hard roller. The hard roller surface temperature is no less than the plasticization temperature of the fibrous web running through the extended nip. The pressing component of the extended nip has a surface roughness lower than that of the felt belts (6, 7, 16) of the preceding presses (10-12, 13, 18) by a factor of at least 10 times. The pressing component is heated, at least on the side facing the nip. Preceding presses dry the fibrous web to a moisture content no less than 40%, before entry into the extended nip. The nip length, measured along the web, is 50 mm. The pressing component is a shoe roller with a surrounding casing. This is flexible, and may be sufficiently flexible to rotate around the rollers (31). A pressure shoe (25) presses it towards the hard roller.
