[origin: EP1394495A1] The missile launcher (1) has a tube (7) mounted on trunnions on a rotatable column (6) so that it may be aimed in the general direction of a target, e.g. an enemy helicopter (2), as determined by acoustic sensing. The guided missile (14) with an infrared target-seeking head (15) is loaded into the tube ready for use. The rotatable column supporting the tube may be mounted on a housing (3) which contains the microprocessor and other electronic equipment. There are stabilizing legs (8) resting on the ground (9) and carrying microphones (10) and level sensors (11). The noise made by the helicopter is recognized and its level is assessed, and the missile may be launched when the noise gets sufficiently loud.
