The method involves forming a code for calling up an element from an identifier and a system key according to a computing rule, sending the identifier and key to a control station, forming an acknowledgment code in the control station from the identifier and key using the same rule, sending this code to an auxiliary operating device if the operation is granted, comparing with a stored request code and carrying out the operation if the codes agree. Um für die Hilfsbedienung von Fahrwegelementen ein Verfahren zu schaffen, welches ohne Mitwirken des Fahrdienstleiters dezentral durchgeführt werden kann und dennoch sicher ist, wird ein Verfahren zur Hilfsbedienung von Fahrwegelementen vorgeschlagen, bei dem zur Anfrage einer Hilfsbedienung eines Fahrwegelementes aus einer diesem Fahrwegelement individualisierend zugeordneten Elementkennung und einem Systemschlüssel nach einer vorgegebenen Rechenvorschrift ein Anfragecode gebildet und gespeichert wird, die Kennung und der Systemschlüssel einer Leitstelle übermittelt werden, in der Leitstelle aus der empfangenen Kennung und dem empfangenen Systemschlüssel nach derselben Rechenvorschrift ein Quittungscode gebildet wird, der Quittungscode bei Freigabe der angefragten Hilfsbedienung von der Leitstelle zu einer Hilfsbedieneinrichtung übermittelt, in die Hilfsbedieneinrichtung eingegeben und mit dem gespeicherten Anfragecode verglichen wird und wobei bei festgestellter Übereinstimmung zwischen Quittungscode und Anfragecode die angefragte Hilfsbedienung ausgeführt wird. <IMAGE>
