Abstract (en)
The protector consists of a profiled seal (1) enclosing electric signal-conducting elements (5.1,5.2) made from conductive plastic, copper braid, or a combination of both. A signal is fed through the conductors so that one serves as a reference, and a relative change in the signal passing through the other conductor can trigger an alarm. In an alternative form, optical fibers or other light guides may be employed, mechanical distortion of the fiber producing a detectable change in the optical signal it carries.
