Abstract (en)
[origin: WO0230262A2] An orthopedic swivel screw comprises a threaded shaft and a tissue retainer, which elements are held together by a swivel joint. By virtue of its design, the swivel screw can be installed into a bore in a bone by turning and either pushing or pulling the treaded shaft with a tool. Use of the swivel screw for repair of the ACL, in particular ligament replacement, eliminates or at least minimizes the twisting that typically occurs during conventional ACL repair surgery. In addition, tension of the ligament graft can be precisely adjusted by using the swivel screw in combination with a tension-adjusting device such as a split-nut fastener or a tension bolt. The split-nut is used in combination with any implantable bolt used in orthopedic devices. The split-nut, has two halves, slides down a threaded rod until a rig surrounding the two halves forces them together. The split-nut is then readily threaded tightly onto the threaded rod.
