[origin: DE10130812A1] The invention relates to a steering mechanism, more particularly a rack-and-pinion hydro-steering gear for motor vehicles, comprising the following: a steering handle (L) for inputting a desired steering operation, a hydraulic fluid source (18) and a control valve device (15) for controlling the flow of a hydraulic fluid to and from a servomotor (7) for controlling the wheels (31) of the vehicle. The control valve device (15) has a closed central section. A hydraulic fluid accumulator (32) is provided for generating and/or assisting a flow of hydraulic fluid to and from the servomotor (7).
