[origin: WO03003631A1] For wire-bound data transmission between a master and a slave a repeater is provided that forwards the data from one device to the next since a direct communication between master and slave is impossible. The data are transmitted in a plurality of subsequently transmitted frames (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4) associated with a respective plurality of time slots. The master controls and monitors data transmission by controlling in every frame (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4) the utilization of the time slots of future frames. In order to achieve this, the master transmits respective information in the respective first time slot of a frame, the so-called frame header (7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4). According to the working example, the master transmits the time slot allocation (9.1, 9.2) for the respective after next frame (5.3, 5.4) to the repeater in every frame (5.1, 5.2). The repeater receives the time slot allocation from the master, in turn allocates the time slots for the slave and transmits them in the respective second time slot (8.2, 8.3) of the subsequent frame (5.2, 5.3) to the slave which can then use the correct time slots in the corresponding frame (5.3, 5.4) to transmit data to or receive data from the repeater.
