Abstract (en)

[origin: WO02103067A2] In order to melt down aluminium in an oven, a method is known whereby a starting material containing aluminium is supplied to an oven, is pre-heated in an upper region of the oven by means of oven flue gas, and is then heated by means of a burner, in order to form an aluminium melt, in a lower region of the oven. An oxygen-rich gas and fuel are supplied to the burner, producing a burner flame acting on the starting material in the melting region and contributing to the formation of the oven flue gas. On the basis of the above, the aim of the invention is to provide a method using an oxygen burner or a mixed burner, whereby the disadvantages in terms of the re-heating of the aluminium starting material are avoided. According to the invention, the oven flue gas is extracted from the upper region of the oven and is reintroduced into the lower region, at least partially, as recirculated, heated gas.
